Support After Diagnosis: What Happens Next?
In recent years, increasing numbers of children, young people and adults are receiving diagnoses of Autism, ADHD and Dyslexia. While receiving a diagnosis can bring clarity and relief, it often also raises an important question:
What happens next?
For many individuals and families, the post-diagnostic period can feel overwhelming. There may be long NHS waiting lists, limited follow-up, or uncertainty about what support is available beyond assessment. A diagnosis is not an endpoint. It is a starting point.
Why post-diagnostic support matters
A neurodevelopmental diagnosis provides understanding, not solutions on its own. Without appropriate guidance and support, individuals may continue to struggle with communication, emotional regulation, mental health, education or work, despite finally having an explanation for their experiences.
Post-diagnostic support helps individuals:
Understand their neurodivergent profile
Make sense of strengths as well as challenges
Develop practical strategies for daily life
Access appropriate adjustments at school, university or work
Feel validated, supported and empowered
Support should never be one-size-fits-all. Each person’s experience of autism, ADHD or dyslexia is unique.
A neuro-affirming approach
At Lycali, we believe support should be neuro-affirming, person-centred and practical. This means recognising neurodiversity as a natural variation in human cognition, rather than something to be “fixed”.
Our work focuses on helping individuals understand how their brain works, identify what helps them thrive, and build strategies that fit their life — not the other way around.
How Lycali supports individuals and families
We provide independent, private neurodevelopmental support for children, young people and adults, both in Kent and online. Our services include:

We work collaboratively with individuals, families, schools and employers to ensure support is meaningful, realistic and sustainable.
Support for adults and late diagnoses
Many adults receive a diagnosis later in life, often after years of masking, burnout or mental health difficulties. Late diagnosis can bring both relief and grief — relief in understanding oneself, and grief for missed support earlier in life.
Post-diagnostic support for adults can be transformative, offering space to process identity, build self-compassion and develop strategies that support wellbeing, relationships and work.
Making support more visible
To help bridge the gap between diagnosis and support, we are introducing awareness posters in GP surgeries and community settings. These are designed to help individuals and families understand that support does not end with diagnosis and that help is available.
Moving forward with confidence
Whether you are a parent supporting your child, an adult navigating a new diagnosis, or a professional seeking guidance, post-diagnostic support can make a significant difference.
Understanding yourself or your child is the first step. Feeling supported is what allows people to move forward with confidence.
