LYCALI SPEECH & LANGUAGE THERAPY PATHWAY

Adult Speech & Language Therapy Sessions (18+)

Personalised, clinician-led Speech and Language Therapy sessions for adults. Develop practical communication strategies, build on existing strengths and work towards meaningful goals in everyday life, relationships, education and employment.

Welcome to Lycali's Adult Speech & Language Therapy

Lycali provides individualised Speech and Language Therapy sessions for adults who require support with speech, language and communication.

Sessions are delivered by appropriately qualified, HCPC-registered Speech and Language Therapists and tailored to your needs, communication preferences and individual goals.

Therapy may help you develop strategies for expressing yourself, understanding information, communicating effectively and participating in everyday activities.

This Is a Therapy Sessions Pathway

This service is for Speech and Language Therapy sessions.

A formal Speech and Language Therapy assessment is not included as part of the booked therapy sessions.

Your therapist will discuss your existing communication needs and agreed therapy goals.

What If an Assessment Is Needed?

If your Speech and Language Therapist feels that a separate assessment is necessary to understand your needs or plan appropriate intervention, they will discuss this with you.

Any assessment would be arranged separately, with the scope and fees explained before you decide whether to proceed.

If you already have Speech and Language Therapy reports, assessments, care plans or recommendations, please share these with Lycali before your sessions begin.

Important: Before Your First Session

All required registration, consent and pre-session documentation must be completed before your first Speech and Language Therapy session.

Please review your welcome letter, terms and conditions and invoice carefully.

If you have existing professional reports or an EHCP, please let us know before your first session.

1

Initial Enquiry & Registration

When you contact Lycali, our administration team will discuss the reasons you are seeking Speech and Language Therapy sessions.

We may ask about your communication needs, any previous SLT input and the areas you would like support with.

Our team will consider whether your needs fall within the expertise of an available Speech and Language Therapist.

If you decide to proceed, you will be invited to complete registration through WriteUpp, Lycali's clinical management system.

Registration Information May Include:
  • Your contact details and GP information.
  • Current communication needs.
  • Relevant medical or developmental history.
  • Previous Speech and Language Therapy.
  • Existing reports and professional recommendations.
  • Employment, education or daily living circumstances.
  • Communication and accessibility preferences.
  • Consent and information-sharing preferences.

Please let us know if you require accessible information, additional processing time, or other reasonable adjustments.

2

Your Welcome Letter & Documents

Following registration, Lycali will issue a welcome letter outlining the agreed Speech and Language Therapy arrangements.

Terms & Conditions

Information about sessions, confidentiality, cancellations, payment and responsibilities.

Invoice

Details of the agreed therapy fees, payment arrangements and any additional charges, if they apply.

Consent to Treatment

Documentation confirming your informed consent to the agreed Speech and Language Therapy sessions.

Action Required

Please carefully review the documents and complete all required forms before your first therapy appointment.

Therapy sessions cannot take place until the required registration and consent documentation has been completed.

3

Payment & Session Booking

Your invoice will confirm the agreed session fees and payment arrangements.

Once payment has been received in accordance with the agreed terms and required documents completed, Lycali can progress your therapy booking.

Our administration team will confirm your therapist, appointment dates, session times and delivery arrangements.

How Are Sessions Delivered?

Depending on your needs and the clinician's availability, sessions may be delivered online, at Lycali's Broadstairs clinic or at another agreed location.

The most appropriate arrangements will be discussed before booking.

Privately Funded or Commissioned Sessions

Some sessions may be privately funded, while others may be arranged through an organisation or local authority.

We will confirm the booking and payment arrangements relevant to your circumstances.

4

Sharing Existing Reports & Recommendations

If you have already received a Speech and Language Therapy assessment or other relevant professional input, please share the reports with Lycali before your first session.

This will help your therapist understand your communication strengths, identified needs, previous recommendations and existing goals.

Helpful Documents May Include:
  • Previous Speech and Language Therapy reports.
  • Existing therapy plans or communication targets.
  • Professional recommendations.
  • Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Relevant educational or workplace reports.
  • Previous progress reviews.
  • Communication passports or profiles.
  • Other relevant clinical information.
What If You Have No Previous Reports?

You can still contact Lycali to discuss Speech and Language Therapy sessions.

Your therapist will consider the information available and discuss whether they can begin intervention appropriately.

If a separate SLT assessment is necessary, your therapist will explain this and discuss the next steps.

An assessment will not be automatically added to your therapy sessions without prior discussion and agreement.

Please share reports through a secure method agreed with Lycali.

5

Pre-Session Questionnaires Through WriteUpp

Before therapy begins, you may be asked to complete relevant questionnaires to help your therapist understand your communication needs and goals.

All required questionnaires will be issued through WriteUpp, Lycali's clinical management system.

Questionnaire links will be sent separately by email. Please complete any required forms before your first session.

Questionnaires May Explore:
  • Your communication experiences.
  • Existing strengths and difficulties.
  • Current communication strategies.
  • Everyday communication demands.
  • Employment or educational needs.
  • Communication preferences.
  • Previous therapy and recommendations.
  • Personal goals and priorities.
Important: Completing WriteUpp Questionnaires

Please set aside enough uninterrupted time to complete each questionnaire in one sitting.

Questionnaires cannot be saved part-way through or resubmitted once submitted.

Please check your responses carefully before selecting Submit.

Allow Enough Time

Have relevant background information available before starting.

Cannot Save Progress

Partially completed questionnaires cannot be saved for later.

One Submission Only

The same questionnaire link cannot be used again after submission.

Need a Copy of Your Responses?

If you would like a copy of submitted questionnaire responses, please contact Lycali.

Copies can be shared subject to appropriate identity and information-sharing checks.

If information needs correcting after submission, please contact our administration team.

Starting Your Speech & Language Therapy Sessions

Your first therapy session provides an opportunity to meet your Speech and Language Therapist, review your current communication needs and discuss your goals.

Where previous reports and therapy recommendations are available, these can help inform the work undertaken.

Your therapist will explain the planned activities and how therapy will be personalised to you.

The First Session May Include:
  • Getting to know your therapist.
  • Discussing your communication priorities.
  • Reviewing previous therapy targets.
  • Identifying strengths and helpful strategies.
  • Agreeing initial therapy goals.
  • Discussing session arrangements.
  • Exploring ways to practise between sessions.
This Is Not a Formal Assessment Appointment

The session may include informal discussion or observation to support ongoing therapy planning.

However, this does not constitute a separately booked formal SLT assessment.

If an assessment becomes necessary, your therapist will let you know and explain the available options.

7

Personalised Therapy Goals

Therapy goals will be agreed collaboratively and based on your individual communication needs, preferences and everyday priorities.

Where existing clinical recommendations or EHCP targets are available, these may guide the therapy provided.

Examples of Therapy Goals:
  • Developing clearer communication where appropriate.
  • Improving understanding of spoken information.
  • Organising and expressing ideas.
  • Developing word-finding strategies.
  • Supporting conversation and interaction.
  • Communicating needs and preferences.
  • Building self-advocacy skills.
  • Developing communication strategies for employment.
  • Increasing confidence in everyday communication.
  • Using agreed communication supports effectively.
A Neuro-Affirming Approach

Therapy focuses on meaningful communication and reducing barriers to participation.

We recognise that differences in eye contact, communication style, processing time and social interaction do not automatically require intervention.

Goals will reflect your own priorities and agreed needs, rather than expecting you to conform to a particular communication style.

8

Ongoing Speech & Language Therapy Sessions

Therapy sessions focus on your agreed communication goals and practical strategies that can be used in everyday life.

The activities used will depend on your individual needs and the clinician's specialist expertise.

Sessions May Include:
  • Speech clarity and production work.
  • Expressive language activities.
  • Language comprehension strategies.
  • Word-finding and communication repair.
  • Organising spoken information.
  • Communication practice in everyday situations.
  • Social communication and self-advocacy.
  • Communication strategies for work or education.
  • Alternative or supportive communication strategies.
  • Developing communication confidence.
How Many Sessions Will Be Needed?

The number and frequency of sessions will depend on your goals, existing recommendations and progress.

Sessions may be arranged individually or as an agreed block.

Your therapist will review progress and discuss whether further sessions are appropriate.

9

Progress Reviews & Outcomes

Your therapist will review progress towards your agreed communication goals throughout the therapy programme.

Reviews help identify helpful strategies and whether the therapy approach should be adjusted.

Progress Reviews May Explore:
  • Progress towards therapy targets.
  • Changes in everyday communication.
  • Strategies you find useful.
  • Increased communication confidence.
  • Changes in participation at work or education.
  • Remaining communication barriers.
  • Updated goals and priorities.
  • Whether further sessions are needed.
Follow-Up Information

Your therapist may use informal activities, observations, goal-based measures or questionnaires to review progress.

Where formal follow-up questionnaires are required, these will be issued through WriteUpp.

10

EHCP Provision & Local Authority Funding

Some young adults may have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) which identifies Speech and Language Therapy provision.

In England, EHCPs can apply to children and young people from birth through the period before age 25, subject to statutory eligibility and the continued need for a plan.

Could Your SLT Sessions Be Funded?

If you are a young adult with an EHCP and Speech and Language Therapy forms part of your specified provision, you may be eligible for support funded or commissioned through your local authority.

This may include provision to support communication and participation in education or training.

What Should You Do?

  • Check whether your EHCP is currently in place.
  • Review the Speech and Language Therapy provision specified.
  • Speak with your local authority SEND team or caseworker.
  • Ask how the identified therapy provision will be arranged.
  • Share the relevant EHCP sections with Lycali where appropriate.
  • Contact Lycali if you would like to discuss potential commissioned provision.
Important Information About Funding

An EHCP does not automatically mean that private therapy sessions booked directly with Lycali will be funded.

Funding and commissioning arrangements must be confirmed with the relevant local authority or responsible organisation before sessions are delivered under those arrangements.

EHCP provision does not automatically continue until age 25. Whether the plan remains necessary depends on the young person's circumstances and education or training needs.

If local authority funding is not agreed, any privately arranged Lycali sessions will remain subject to the fees and terms agreed at booking.

11

Reports & Professional Liaison

During therapy, your Speech and Language Therapist will maintain appropriate clinical records of the support provided.

If you require a written therapy summary or report, please discuss this with Lycali in advance.

A Therapy Summary May Include:
  • Goals addressed during sessions.
  • Strategies and approaches used.
  • Progress towards agreed outcomes.
  • Current communication needs.
  • Recommendations for continued support.
  • Suggested future goals.
Additional Professional Work

Formal reports, EHCP review contributions, workplace correspondence, multidisciplinary meetings or professional liaison may require separately agreed professional time.

Additional charges, if they apply, will be confirmed before the work is undertaken.

Where therapy is commissioned through an EHCP or another contract, any included reporting obligations will be determined by that agreement.

Information will only be shared with third parties where there is an appropriate lawful basis.

12

Next Steps & Discharge

At the end of the agreed therapy sessions, your clinician will review progress and discuss the most appropriate next steps.

Some adults will continue using communication strategies independently, while others may benefit from further sessions or another service.

Next Steps May Include:
  • Continuing helpful communication strategies.
  • Further SLT sessions where appropriate.
  • Updated communication goals.
  • Advice for employers or education providers.
  • Further specialist assessment if necessary.
  • Other specialist support or referral.
  • Discharge from the agreed therapy block.
If Further Assessment Is Recommended

If the therapist identifies a need for a separate formal assessment during the therapy programme, they will explain why this may be beneficial.

An assessment would be arranged separately and would not be automatically included within your therapy sessions.

£

Session Fees & Additional Charges (If They Apply)

This pathway is for Adult Speech and Language Therapy sessions, not an assessment package.

Your session fees and payment arrangements will be confirmed before booking and detailed in your invoice.

A separate assessment, if subsequently recommended, would only be arranged following discussion and agreement.

Additional Charges (If They Apply)

Some appointments may involve additional travel or external clinic hire costs.

These charges do not apply to every appointment.

They may apply where a therapist needs to travel or external clinic space is required away from Lycali's main Broadstairs base.

If additional charges apply, they will be confirmed before booking and clearly outlined in your invoice.

Any separately agreed reports, professional meetings, liaison or assessment work may also involve additional charges where applicable.

Local Authority Funded Sessions

Where SLT sessions are formally commissioned through a local authority or another responsible organisation, the applicable funding and invoicing arrangements will be confirmed before provision begins.

Cancellation & Non-Attendance Policy

Lycali operates a 24-hour cancellation policy for privately booked Speech and Language Therapy sessions.

Please contact our administration team as early as possible if you cannot attend an appointment.

At Least 24 Hours' Notice

Please provide at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or rearrange your appointment.

The full late-cancellation charge will not apply where sufficient notice is given.

Less Than 24 Hours' Notice

Privately booked sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice are chargeable at the full booked session rate.

Did Not Attend (DNA)

A booked session missed without cancellation will be recorded as Did Not Attend.

DNA appointments are charged at the full booked session rate.

How to Cancel

Please notify Lycali's administration team as soon as you know your appointment cannot go ahead.

info@lycali.co.uk

Privately booked sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice and all Did Not Attend (DNA) appointments are chargeable at 100% of the booked session fee.

Please refer to your welcome letter and terms and conditions for the full cancellation arrangements, including applicable statutory rights.

If a separate assessment is required, your therapist will discuss this with you.

Please share any existing SLT reports, relevant professional recommendations or EHCP documentation before sessions begin, where available.

All mandatory registration, consent and pre-session questionnaires must be completed before therapy can take place.

Please review your invoice, appointment confirmation, any additional charges (if they apply) and cancellation arrangements.
