Workplace Needs Assessment for 16+

A Workplace Needs Assessment explores how a person’s needs affect their ability to access, sustain and thrive in work or study environments.

Rather than focusing purely on performance, the assessment looks at functional impact - how workplace environments, expectations and cognitive demands interact with a person’s needs.

What is a Workplace Needs Assessment?

Workplace Needs Assessment at Lycali

  • At Lycali, assessment and advocacy work together to ensure people are understood, supported and able to access the adjustments they need to thrive.

Sometimes people know something is not working in their life, but it can be difficult to clearly identify what the challenges are, why they are happening, and what support might help.

Lycali’s Workplace Needs Assessments provide a structured way to explore how a person’s needs affect their everyday functioning, work and overall wellbeing.

These assessments focus on real-life impact, rather than diagnosis alone. They explore how factors such as neurodivergence, stress, environment, sensory demands and executive functioning interact with everyday responsibilities.

  • This assessment may help support:

    • reasonable adjustments in the workplace

    • Access to Work applications

    • occupational health discussions

    • conversations with employers or HR

    • sustainable employment planning

    • newly diagnosed and unsure how work may be affected

    • considering changes to their role or working environment

  • A specialist assessment helps to:

    • identify what the needs actually are

    • explain why difficulties occur

    • link diagnosis to real-life impact

    • provide professional, structured documentation

This means advocacy becomes evidence-led, not just voice-led.

    • executive functioning (organisation, time management, task initiation)

    • sensory impact of the workplace environment

    • cognitive and emotional workload

    • communication expectations

    • masking and fatigue cycles

    • stress triggers and burnout risk

    • work environment fit

    • factors that support effective working

Support is provided by an experienced professional.

    • A Workplace Functional Needs Assessment Report

    • Clear explanation of how needs impact work

    • Practical recommendations for reasonable adjustments

    • A professional summary suitable for employers or services

    • Optional advocacy support to help communicate findings

  • If you feel overwhelmed by daily life, a Life Functioning Skills Assessment may be a good starting point.
If your main difficulty relates to work, a Workplace Needs Assessment may be more appropriate.
If challenges affect many areas of daily life, a Home & Daily Living Functional Needs Assessment may be helpful.

  • A Functional Needs Assessment may be helpful if you feel something isn’t working in your daily life or work but are unsure why. The assessment helps identify how your needs affect everyday functioning and what support may help.

  • No. Many people seek assessments to better understand their needs, whether or not they have a formal diagnosis.

  • The assessment involves a structured conversation exploring areas such as routines, organisation, stress, environment, and daily responsibilities. The outcome is a written report outlining strengths, challenges and practical recommendations.

  • Following the assessment you will receive a report with recommendations. Some people use this information for personal understanding, while others may use it to support conversations with employers, services, or professionals.
