Why an assessment should be the beginning of support, not the end

Discover how Lycali's six-session post-diagnostic psychoeducation programme can help children, young people and adults understand their diagnosis, recognise their strengths and develop practical strategies for everyday life.

Receiving a diagnosis can bring answers, but it can also create new questions

Receiving an Autism, ADHD or Dyslexia diagnosis can be a significant moment for an individual and their family.

For some people, a diagnosis brings relief, validation and a clearer understanding of experiences that may have felt confusing for many years. For others, it may feel overwhelming or leave them uncertain about what should happen next.

At Lycali, we believe that people should receive more than an assessment report. They should have the opportunity to understand what their diagnosis means for them personally and how that knowledge can be used positively in everyday life.

Diagnosis is not the final destination

A diagnosis can provide an explanation, but post-diagnostic support helps a person turn that explanation into greater self-understanding, practical strategies, confidence and self-advocacy.

What happens after a diagnosis?

Families and individuals often tell us that they value receiving a clear diagnostic outcome, but are then left trying to understand how to apply the information contained within their report.

What does this diagnosis mean for me or my child?
How should we explain the diagnosis to family members?
What support or reasonable adjustments may be helpful?
How can we talk to school, college or an employer?
How can we protect confidence and self-esteem?
Which practical strategies should we try first?

Post-diagnostic psychoeducation creates a supported space in which these questions can be explored. It helps the individual understand their own profile rather than relying only on general information about a diagnostic label.

The benefits of post-diagnostic psychoeducation

Psychoeducation is a structured and supportive process that combines accessible information with personalised reflection and practical strategies. It is designed to help people understand their diagnosis rather than feel defined or limited by it.

1

Greater self-understanding

Individuals can make sense of their experiences and recognise why certain situations may feel easier or more difficult.

2

Improved confidence

Exploring strengths alongside needs can support a more balanced and compassionate understanding of identity.

3

Practical strategies

Sessions identify realistic strategies that can be used at home, in education, within relationships or at work.

4

Better family understanding

Families can develop a shared language for discussing needs, differences, strengths and appropriate support.

5

Stronger self-advocacy

Individuals can become more confident in explaining what they need and asking for appropriate adjustments.

6

Positive future planning

The programme supports individuals to identify goals and consider how their strengths can help them move forward.

Available until 31 July 2026

Assessment and post-diagnostic support offer

When an Autism, ADHD or Dyslexia assessment is booked with Lycali, our six-session post-diagnostic psychoeducation programme can be added for the reduced fee of:

£450 for six personalised psychoeducation sessions
  • Six structured sessions
  • Based on the Lycali Framework™
  • Personalised around the individual's needs
  • Strengths-based and neurodiversity-affirming
  • Practical strategies for everyday life
  • Support following the assessment outcome
Nothing is paid for the programme before the assessment. Payment for the six psychoeducation sessions is not taken until after the assessment outcome has been established. This is because the programme will be personalised around the individual's assessment findings and diagnosis.

Where the assessment does not result in a diagnosis, Lycali will still provide a clear clinical rationale, feedback and appropriate recommendations based on the person's individual profile.

A diagnosis should lead to understanding and meaningful support

At Lycali, we believe every individual deserves more than a diagnostic label or written report. They deserve the opportunity to understand themselves, recognise their strengths, communicate their needs and feel confident about their future.

The Lycali Framework™ helps bridge the gap between receiving a diagnosis and knowing what to do next.
