LYCALI ASSESSMENT PATHWAY

Child Dyscalculia Assessment

This page explains each stage of your child's dyscalculia assessment journey with Lycali, from initial enquiry and registration through to questionnaires, educational information, assessment appointment, report, feedback and recommendations.

1

Initial Enquiry & Registration

Once you contact Lycali, our team will review your enquiry and provide information about the most appropriate dyscalculia assessment pathway for your child.

If you decide to proceed, you will be sent a registration form to complete. This allows us to gather key information about your child and register them securely on our clinical management system.

The registration form includes information such as parent/carer contact details, GP details, relevant background information and consent preferences.

2

Invoice, Terms & Conditions and Consent

Once registered, we will issue your assessment invoice together with our terms and conditions and consent documentation.

These documents must be reviewed and signed before your child's assessment can proceed.

Please ensure all information is accurate and notify us if any details need updating.
3

Payment Received

Once payment has been received and all required documentation has been completed, your child's assessment pathway will formally begin.

You will then receive access to the required pre-assessment questionnaires and any additional documents needed for the assessment.

4

Documents to Complete

Please complete the forms below as soon as possible. These help us gather information about your child's developmental history, education, learning profile, communication, health, family background and day-to-day functioning.

Child Developmental History Questionnaire

This questionnaire provides essential information about your child's developmental history, education, learning profile, communication, health, family background and day-to-day functioning.

We also require details of your child's current educational setting so that we can request information from school, college or other educational providers where appropriate.

If there is likely to be a delay in completing the Developmental History Questionnaire, please email info@lycali.co.uk with your child's educational setting details as soon as possible to avoid delays in the assessment process.

You can copy and paste the template below into your email:

Child's Full Name: Date of Birth: School/College Name: Year Group: School SENCo Name (if known): School SENCo Email Address (if known): School Telephone Number: Parent/Carer Name: Parent/Carer Contact Number:

Dyscalculia Add-On Questionnaire

This questionnaire gathers additional information regarding mathematical development, number concepts, calculation skills, memory, processing speed, learning experiences, educational support, confidence with maths and day-to-day functioning.

5

How I Feel About Mathematics Questionnaire

This questionnaire is completed by the child or young person, where age appropriate, and helps us understand their experiences of mathematics, confidence levels, emotional responses to maths and how mathematical difficulties may be impacting everyday life and education.

This questionnaire is suitable for children and young people aged 8–18 years.

Understanding how your child feels about mathematics helps us consider confidence, anxiety, avoidance and emotional responses alongside standardised assessment results.
6

Educational Setting Questionnaire

We ask that a member of staff from your child's educational setting completes this questionnaire. This may be completed by a teacher, SENCo, maths lead, learning support lead, teaching assistant or another member of staff who knows your child well.

The information provided helps us understand your child's mathematical abilities, classroom performance, strengths, challenges and support needs within the educational environment.

Please share the questionnaire below with the relevant member of staff.

Educational information helps clinicians understand how your child's numeracy profile presents in the learning environment and supports a more complete assessment.
7

Dyscalculia Assessment Appointment

The assessment appointment will involve a detailed discussion regarding your child's developmental history, educational experiences, strengths and areas of difficulty with mathematics and numeracy.

A range of standardised assessments will be completed to explore mathematical reasoning, number concepts, calculation skills, working memory, processing speed and other areas relevant to dyscalculia.

Face-to-Face Assessment Required

Dyscalculia assessments are completed face-to-face only. Due to the nature of the assessment materials and standardised testing procedures, dyscalculia assessments cannot be completed remotely.
Who should attend?

Your child should attend the assessment appointment. Parents or carers will usually be asked to attend part of the appointment to provide additional information where required.

The Lycali administration team will contact you to arrange a suitable appointment time.

8

Report, Feedback and Recommendations

Following completion of the assessment, the clinician will review and analyse all information gathered throughout the process.

You will receive a comprehensive written report summarising:

  • Assessment findings
  • Standardised assessment results
  • Information gathered from parents/carers and educational settings
  • Mathematical strengths and areas of difficulty
  • Diagnostic conclusions where appropriate
  • Recommendations and next steps

Recommendations may include school adjustments, numeracy strategies, assistive technology, exam access considerations, home support strategies and further support options.

9

What Happens After Diagnosis?

Following assessment, you may wish to access additional support, school recommendations, numeracy intervention, assistive technology guidance, exam access advice or practical resources.

Lycali has created a dedicated page to help you understand possible next steps after diagnosis.
